The door entry panel is the electrical device a household uses most, and usually the one that gets the least thought. When an intercom misbehaves it is nearly always one of three things: inadequate supply, the wrong cable, or an electric lock drawing more than the unit can give. I do new installs, swap old units while keeping the existing cabling, and repair failed systems.

Scope of work

  • Single and multi-unit video door entry
  • Audio intercom and older systems
  • Swapping an outdated unit onto the existing cabling
  • IP door entry, answered from a phone anywhere
  • Electric locks, gate motors and shutters set up and adjusted
  • Entry panels with card reader, keypad or fingerprint
  • Door entry tied into CCTV and the smart home system
  • Fault finding: no chime, no picture, door will not release, noise on the line
  • Riser cabling for multi-storey blocks
  • Backup supply so the door still opens in a power cut

Standards and equipment

  • 01 Purpose-made intercom cable sized to the run, not telephone cable
  • 02 Voltage drop calculated on the long risers of multi-storey blocks
  • 03 Transformer and supply matched to the lock’s inrush current
  • 04 Intercom routes separated from power cable to keep noise off the line
  • 05 Weather protection on the outdoor panel, appropriate to the Gilan climate
  • 06 Every unit tested before handover on multi-occupancy jobs

The right cable is half the job

Most intercoms with a snowy picture or a hum on the line were run in telephone cable or something cheap. The right cable gets chosen, and on long runs the voltage drop gets calculated.

A new unit on the old wiring

In many homes there is no need to open a wall. If the existing cable is sound, the new unit goes onto it. That gets checked before anything is quoted.

What drives the cost

There is no fixed price on this page, because without seeing the site any number is a guess. These are the things that set the estimate:

  • Number of units and storeys
  • Video or audio, and the features of the unit
  • Whether existing cabling can be reused or a new run is needed
  • Electric lock, gate motor or card reader panel
  • Whether it needs to be answered from a phone

This service covers Gurab Zarmikh, Soumeh Sara, Tulam Shahr, Ziabar, Marjaghal, Kasma, Hendekhaleh, Taher Gurab, Nargestan, Gurabpas and the surrounding villages.

Frequently asked

My old intercom has failed. Do I need new cabling?

Usually not. If the existing cable is sound and of the right type, a new unit goes straight onto it with nothing broken out. The cable gets tested before anything is proposed. Only where telephone cable was used, or the run has been damaged, does it need replacing.

Contact

Describe the job and I will take it from there

One short call is usually enough to establish what the work is, how long it takes and roughly what it costs.

Call for an accurate estimate. If I am on a job and miss the call, I ring back as soon as I am off the ladder.
