The brief
A newer block in Golsar that had several thefts from the car park and strangers getting in. The old system was four analogue cameras whose night images were useless, and one outdoor camera had failed from water ingress. The board of residents wanted full coverage and for the building manager to be able to view footage on a phone.
How it was done
- 01 Walkround with the building manager to fix the sensitive points: pedestrian entrance, car park gate, lobby, lifts and roof
- 02 Entrance camera at face identification height, and the car park gate camera angled to read number plates
- 03 IP67 rated cameras and cable glands outdoors, given the damp and rain
- 04 Network cabling in trunking separate from power in the services riser
- 05 Recorder and PoE switch in a locked rack, on a UPS so recording continues through power cuts
- 06 Mobile access set up with separate permission levels for the manager and board members
The outcome
All entrances and the car park are covered with identifiable day and night footage, and recording continues during power cuts. A camera layout plan and the admin credentials were handed over in the building file.
